by Jane Pares on 3 Jun 2007
New Bavaria 34 Cruiser side view - Bavaria 34 Cruiser International Marine Brokers New Zealand www.internationalmarine.co.nz
This delightful cruiser has replaced the B33 and Bavaria Yachts are convinced that it will outsell any other yacht of the same size on the market today. Classic elegance coupled with functional and modern equipment makes it a very attractive buy and yet another example of the high quality that Bavaria Yachts are famous for.

Standard specifications for the B34 out-class those of other yachts of a similar size and are more reasonably priced.

The B34 is equipped with a very spacious saloon for a yacht of this length, with six opening windows and two large hatches making it lovely and light down below. The chart table features a new, improved design as does the head. The roomy cockpit has benches of 2.4m and a new design transom hatch which electronically lowers to the bathing platform. All other new features are similar to those on the Bavaria 31.

Length overall 10.71 m
Length hull 10.45 m
Beam 3.60 m
Draught standard ~1.90 m
Engine Volvo-Penta D1-20 13.3 kW/18 hp
Cabins / Berths 2 / 4
Height of mast approx 14.82 m
Mainsail & Genoa approx ~61.2 m2

Although the new B34 hasn’t rolled out of the Bavaria factory yet, IMB have already sold one and it arrives in New Zealand in late October

The appeal of offshore
Is there still appeal? Have we made it too onerous? Why would someone take it up now? I had been pondering. Yes. Marquee events have no issue attracting entrants. Middle Sea, Transpac, Cape to Rio, Fastnet, and Hobart all spring to mind instantly, but what of the ‘lesser' races? Lots of boats in pens (slips) a lot of the time

Night sailing, encountering light airs in the Transat Paprec, Congressional Cup We bundled up as the last of the rays sunlight dipped below the Olympic Mountains and night quietly fell on Puget Sound.
