There’s under six weeks to go to the Firefly classes biggest event of the year, the Craftinsure Firefly National Championships which takes place at Weymouth from the 4 to the 10 August.
After last year’s amazing 60th Anniversary year 2007 has been a bit quieter for the Firefly fleet. However the National Firefly Association still expect a healthy entry of these classic 12 foot, two person dinghies, for their 61st Championships.
The class in collaboration with Weymouth Sailing Club have lined up a wonderful week of sailing and social events for all ages to enjoy. On the water eight points races will be held with the Wednesday reserved for the long distance Sir Ralph Gore Challenge Trophy, a race every Firefly sailor dreams of winning.
Off the water activities will include live bands, pig racing, a fancy dress party (007 anyone?), and all the usual favourites such as crews union and of course the original Duckhams Trophy.
Entries for the week are still being taken and all the details as well as an entry form are available on the National Firefly Association website www.fireflysailing.co.uk
Championship Liaison Office Hermione Turner is also on hand to deal with any questions. She can be contacted by email at hermioneroseturner@hotmail.com
