In recognition of this year’s 32nd contest for the America’s Cup, yachting’s oldest international prize, the Herreshoff Marine Museum is proud to present a series of lectures celebrating the people, technology and excitement of this seminal yachting event.
On Tuesday July 10 at 7 p.m. Museum President Halsey Herreshoff, who has participated in four defenses of the America’s Cup, will report on the current America’s Cup match held in Valencia, Spain. Recently returned from viewing the races, Halsey will have a first-hand, 'insider’s' view of the races and provide 'the rest of the story' of this year’s exciting contest. A reception will follow the talk. This event is held in the Herreshoff Marine Museum’s Aria Gallery, located at One Burnside St., Bristol, R.I. It is free for Museum members and $5.00 for non-members.
This is the second presentation in the Museum’s 2007 Lecture Series.
Other lectures scheduled are: Aug. 14 'RESOLUTE & VANITIE – The Greatest Large Sailboat Rivalry in American Yachting', by historian Nathanael G. Herreshoff, III; and Sept. 11 'The Twelve Meter Years' by David Pedrick, President Pedrick Yacht Designs and principal designer in eight America’s Cup campaigns. On October 18th noted author John Rousmaniere will present the annual Carlton J. Pinheiro Lecture: 'Always New: How the America’s Cup Never Stops Reinventing Itself (And Why We Should Approve'.
