RS-X International Youth and Under 21 Championship

by Ben Barger, RS:X Media on 20 Jun 2007
RS:X World Youth Championships will take place in Sospot, Poland rsxclass.com

With the successful conclusion of the 2007 of RS:X European Championship, our thoughts now turn to the upcoming inaugural RS:X Youth World Championship in Sopot, Poland which will take place between July 27th and August 5th.

The RS:X Youth World Championships entry lists are open to athletes from all round the world on a first come first served basis up to a maximum of 120 per fleet. Indeed entries have already been received from New Zealand, Hong Kong, Israel, Norway, Greece, France and Great Britain to name just a few.

The RS:X International Under 21 Championships is also being staged for the first time and on the same open entry basis. This is an excellent opportunity for racers who have just moved out of the Youth category to hone their skills and train against sailors in the same age band. An opportunity to shine and prove potential without the established stars of the Olympic fleets being present.

Chief Organiser, Piotr Hlavaty, a Vice President of the RS:X Class Association said: 'This is the start of a big push by the RS:X Class to develop youth windsurf racing in the world. The Class decided last year to stage the Youth Worlds outside Europe every second year giving each continent the chance to bid for the event and promote youth windsurf racing. Stage 2 could be the development of continental circuits for youth racing leading to annual continental ranking lists'.
