Seaplane returns to welcome new Manager at Oban Marina

by Trish Jenkins on 2 Jun 2007
Loch Lomond Seaplanes made a spectacular arrival at Oban Marina SW

Oban Marina Limited based on the Isle of Kerrera, has announced the appointment of Susan Price as the group’s new Marina Manager.

To help mark the appointment of the new marina manager and start of the busy sailing season, bertholders; VIPs; Kerrera residents; local media and friends and family were invited to an ‘Open Day’ on Thursday 31 May.

Visitors watched history repeat itself as Loch Lomond Seaplanes made a spectacular arrival at Oban Marina which was once used as a base for WWII Sunderland Seaplanes.

Following a delicious local seafood lunch from the marina’s Waypoint Bar & Grill (which recently obtained a full liquor licence running throughout the summer months, June to September) and a buffet provided by The Studio Restaurant in Oban, four lucky raffle competition winners were treated to a spectacular flight over the Isle of Kerrera from the seaplane.

38 year old Susan who lives in Oban, joined the company 11 months ago, bringing with her a broad range of experience which includes three years at Dunstaffnage Maarina. Prior to her involvement in the marine industry, Susan was a Police Officer in both Thames Valley Police and Staffordshire Police for 14 years where she developed her organisational and team building skills.

Susan who started sailing when she and her husband moved to Scotland five years ago, commented: 'I am really looking forward to this exciting new challenge. Oban Marina is in such an amazing location and has so much potential. With an excellent team behind me, we are well on track to achieving our goal of making Oban Marina into a first class facility for all our visitors, whether they be local sailors, fishermen, hosted regattas and events or our ever-increasing number of overseas yachtsmen.'

Group Projects Manager John Hunter will oversee the on-going projects and will continue to work closely with the growing team to ensure the development programme to upgrade the site and improve facilities on offer to visitors is in place.

Oban Marina Limited is sister marina to Nanny Cay Hotel & Marina, Tortola, British Virgin Islands. Nanny Cay has hosted the BVI Spring Regatta & Sailing Festival for several years and Oban Marina will follow suit with a number of events and regattas.

This year the West Highland Yachting Week(27 July – 3 August) and Classic Malts Cruise (14 – 27 July) fleets will be hosted by the team at Oban Marina who have already welcomed competitors from The Scottish Islands Three Peaks Race and several other events earlier this year.
