Russell Coutts interview - Radio Sport

by Sail-World on 29 May 2007
Russell Coutts interviewed on Radio Sport earlier this morning (NZT) SW

The most successful America's Cup skipper, Russell Coutts, now required to sit-out the 32nd Match, was interviewed on Tuesday on New Zealand's Radio Sport, by Brendan Telfer.

According to the Radio Sport site, Coutts says that Team NZ has the boat and personnel to beat Luna Rossa off Valencia and believes that Team New Zealand has the better boat heading into the Louis Vuitton Cup final with Luna Rossa.

He adds that the black boat looks good for the light Valencia conditions, with a distinct advantage in downwind boat speed. He is confident if the sailing team get it right, the Italians will have their work cut out for them when racing starts.

Coutts says if Dean Barker and the crew at the back of the boat sail as well as everyone knows they can, then they will be more than a match for Luna Rossa. He says Team New Zealand has the edge in terms of equipment and personnel.

The interview lasts for 10 minutes and covers Coutts's impresssions of BMW Oracle's and Chris Dickson's performance in the Semi-Finals; how he expects Emirates Team NZ and Luna Rossa to work out in the Finals; and comments on Alinghi and their expected performance in the Match.
