No chance for Luna Rossa to pass Germany I

by Oliver Laskowsky, United Internet Team Germany on 23 Apr 2007

Despite a good match the United Internet Team Germany did not manage to win its third match race of the Louis Vuitton Cup.

The German team reached the finish line 50 seconds behind the favoured Team Luna Rossa Challenge from Italy. During the race the team around skipper Jesper Bank managed to close the gap again and again.

'That was a really good race for us', says tactician Davis Dellenbaugh right after the match race. 'Initially we took the lead on the right side of the course. Despite the fact that we had to let Luna Rossa pass we are really happy about being able to keep pace during the race.'

At the start skipper Jesper Bank once again could win the right hand side of the course. After the start the German yacht took the lead for a while on the right side, however when the Italians tacked to the better right side as well they were able to took over the German team and rounded the first mark with a lead of 46 seconds.

On the first downwind the German team proved velocity and made up five seconds until the second rounding. Until the finish line the lag toward the favoured Italian team remained constant and was marked with 50 seconds when crossing the finish line. In the second race of today the United Internet Team Germany will race China Team which is still without a win after their first and unsuccessful race against Victory Challenge.
