The 2007 Yachting Queensland BMW Motorline Secondary Schools Team Racing Championships drew to a close this afternoon with current Term 1 and GPS champions Brisbane Boys College adding the Open Division prize to their already impressive line up of trophies.

This is the first time in history that sailors from Brisbane Boys College have won the State Championships and the crew in the team are now eagerly anticipating the Australian Championships in Tasmania. However it wasn’t an easy win with Rockhampton Grammar School, Iona College and Pimlico State High School tacking, gybing and using every rule imaginable to take home the gold. With racing now over both Brisbane Boys College and Rockhampton Grammar School qualify to compete in the Australian Championships.

The close racing between the Gold Fleet offered the spectators some great action whilst aboard the Cat-O-Nine Tails with teams from the Bronze and Silver Fleet remaining on board to cheer the Gold Fleet sailors across the finish line.

The organisation of a regatta such as this would never eventuate if not for the ongoing assistance and support of the Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron Volunteers. Organised by Volunteer Coordinator Dugald Henderson, he and his team were on water for the past four days managing the results and fleet change overs.

The Race Committee and on-water operations were managed by both Louise Davis and Ian Davis together with Chief Umpire John Middleton and his team Bill Pringle, Paddy Oliver and Geoff Baisden along with their young assistants who were absorbing the knowledge of these experienced umpires.

For the duration of the regatta teams were penalised for numerous infringements however advice on the rules was offered by the Umpires to ensure the young sailors learnt from their experiences.

The Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron congratulates all competitors, coaches and managers who attended the regatta and promise an even bigger and better event come 2008.

The next team racing event on the Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron calendar is the 2007 Westpac Australian Team Racing Championships being held from the 4th to 7th of May.
