After a massive day on Waterloo Bay for the 2007 Yachting Queensland BMW Motorline Secondary Schools Team Racing Championships the Gold, Silver and Bronze divisions were finally decided.

The four day championship will draw to a close this afternoon and the top two teams will then be eligible to compete in the 2007 Australian School Team Racing Championships being held by Sandy Bay Sailing Club and the Royal Yacht Club of Tasmania.

The Gold Fleet will see some very competitive sailing with current Term 1 and GPS champions Brisbane Boys College 1 going into the round as the hot favourites.

There will however be some fierce competition between northern teams Rockhampton Grammar School and Pimlico State High School both entering the Gold Fleet with 6 pool wins between them.

Iona College and Matthew Flinders also qualified for the Gold Fleet and with their racing history will definitely promise intense action between all teams.

Underdogs Anglican Church Grammar School 2 shocked the competitors by winning their pool and therefore claiming a place in the Gold Fleet.

Coach Grant Hudson said that with the second team defeating their superiors it was evident their extra training leading up to the regatta had paid off. 'This will only give the youngsters greater confidence in their ability and will hopefully raise a few eyebrows on the water. I know our first team will be cheering them on from the spectator’s vessel,' said Hudson.

Racing for the Gold Fleet will commence at 1400 hours this afternoon following the Bronze and Silver finals.

This regatta is the final team racing event before the Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron hosts the 2007 Westpac Australian Team Racing Championships scheduled for the May long weekend.
