Single Handed Sailors' Hall of Fame – Now Online

by Sail-World Cruising on 14 Apr 2007
Sir Francis Chichester SW
Maybe you know who Joshua Slocum is (do you?), but who is Ann Davison? Well, she sailed a 23ft boat across the Atlantic in 1952-3. ‘Really?’ you may ask, but the reason she did it, and how long it took are almost more interesting than the feat itself.

There are just 39 sailors in the Single Handed Sailors’ Hall of Fame, each of them with fascinating stories, and until now, the only place in the world that you could learn about them was by visiting The Museum of Yachting in Newport Rhode Island.

Learning about Robin Knox-Johnston, Ellen MacArthur, and all of the other thirty-seven sailors was limited to those that could make the trip to Newport, in season, for a visit.

But not anymore...

Thanks to the generosity of donors, and the hard work of the Creative Director of the museum, SallyAnne Santos, the museum has launched the new VIRTUAL Single-Handed Sailors' Hall of Fame Gallery.

Now you, along with students and scholars from around the world, can have immediate on-line access to biographical information, accomplishments and photos of each of the thirty-nine amazing Inductees.

Right now, you can visit The Virtual Single-Handed Sailor's Hall of Fame, by clicking HERE

According to the chairman Bill Doyle, ‘Any closer and you might just get wet!’
