These school holidays are all about the surf, sand and the sea as the National Maritime Museum joins in celebrating 100 years of surf lifesaving.
The museum’s new exhibition Between the Flags – 100 years of surf lifesaving will come alive during the holidays with plenty of beach themed arts and crafts for kids to learn about beach safety and lifesaving.
Kids can dress up as a lifesaver or in their favourite beach outfit while making their very own beach flag fridge magnets and beach collage to take home and remind them to always ‘swim between the flags’. The hourly sessions will run daily during the holidays between 10am and 4 pm.
And don’t forget to collect the Between the Flags Activity Trail booklet …it’s free when you buy a school holiday ticket. This colourful activity booklet includes questions, games and activities to encourage children to explore the exhibition and learn about surf lifesaving while having fun.
Every Sunday visitors to the Between the Flags – 100 years of surf lifesaving exhibition will also have the opportunity to meet a genuine lifesaver. From varied clubs across NSW, they will answer questions, share their own experiences patrolling our beaches and provide important tips on how to avoid rips, bluebottles and other beach hazards.
Between the Flags Family Fun Day
And don’t miss the Between the Flags Family Fun Day on Sunday 15 April. From 10 am to 4 pm there’ll be heaps of FREE activities for families to enjoy including mock in-water rescue demonstrations, nipper lifesaving marchpasts, CPR/first aid demonstrations and even a mechanical surfboard to try your luck at!
Admission to the Between the Flags Children’s Activity Area is $7 per child or free with any ticket to see the museum’s vessels. Member families and adults free.
