Seawind F18 Worlds action Day 3 Gordon McGillvray
Easing weather overnight, might give the 80 boat fleet sailing in the 2007 F18 Worlds off the beach at Rydges Capricorn Resort at Yeppoon in Queensland some respite today. Yesterday the regatta leader Darren Bundock described the conditions as extreme.
The problem has not been the wind which has been in the 17-22 range for most of the time, but the big swell which is delivering some pretty demanding conditions.
The high in the Tasman Sea is still directing fresh south easterly trade wins along the Queensland coast. The high will weaken and move away to the east during the weekend.
This morning's Weather Bureau forecast for Capricornia Waters was
Friday until midnight: SE winds about 20 knots increasing to 20/25 knots offshore. Seas to 2.2 metres. Scattered squally showers.
Saturday: SE winds 20/25 knots. Seas to 2.2 metres. Scattered showers.
Sunday: SE winds 20/25 knots.
Racing is scheduled to start at 10am local time today with three or four races to be sailed.
