Andrew Fagan on his sailing boat ’Swirly World’ SW
Kiwi rocker Andrew Fagan is keeping his humour as he sits becalmed off Whangarei in an attempt to make history.

The former Mockers singer wants to break the record for the smallest sailing boat to circumnavigate New Zealand, and plans to sail into Auckland this week.

He left Auckland on his 5.6 metre yacht on Boxing Day and sailed down to the sub Antarctic Auckland Islands - 200 miles south of Bluff.

He then made his way up the west coast of the South Island.

He says he is now becalmed near the Hen and Chickens islands off Whangarei.

He has already sailed his boat across the Tasman twice, and authored a sailing-themed autobiography, Swirly World, the Solo Voyages (2002).

Fagan has lived in London and now resides in Auckland. He is married to writer and television/radio broadcaster Karyn Hay. The couple currently host a breakfast radio show on Kiwi FM.

Postscript: Fagan completed his circumnavigation yesterday event (21 February) NZT and Swirly World became the smallest boat to circumnavigate New Zealand.
