Michael Bullot wins NZ Laser Nationals at Kerikeri

Michael Bullot, winner of the 2007 Laser Nationals, shown here competing in Sail Auckland Regatta Richard Gladwell www.photosport.co.nz
Report on the Final Day of the NZ Laser Nationals, held in the Bay of Islands, New Zealand:

The final day was very successful day with the sea breeze cooperating and coming in an hour earlier than usual which meant that the race committee could get in three races and complete the ten scheduled races. The races were sailed in a shifty 5 to 10 knots, with a flat sea in a course area off the Te Puna inlet.

Michael Bullot consolidated well to take home the win ahead of Andrew Murdoch. Josh Junior was third overall and first youth, a fantastic achievement in this highly competitive class. He had a win today, to make a total of three wins from the regatta.

Miranda Powrie came from two points behind Jo Aleh, to win the Radials in a closely fought day. The two Powrie sisters, Miranda and Olivia, followed up their two race wins yesterday with two more today. Laura Baldwin from Great Britain took the third win of the day to take third place overall.

Giles Grigg put in another consistent day to easily win the overall Masters trophy plus the Apprentice Masters’.

First Master was Murray Thom, first Grand Master Garth Cheyne and first Great Grand Jack Hansen. Scott Leith was the first radial master.

Travis Dow took home the 4.7 trophy and won the first 4.7 Laser cube in New Zealand and a flight to the 4.7 worlds in South Africa.
