Reports from the first two days of the NZ Laser Nationals Reports from the first two days of the NZ Laser Nationals being sailed in the Bay of Islands.

First day of the Laser Nationals 17 February 2007.

Conditions were perfect, Northland produced a beautiful sunny day with fantastic sailing conditions, 12-15 knots, steady south east.

Two races were completed today with clean starts for all fleets, no general recalls or boats over the line at the start. There were close racing in all fleets, in the radial fleet the leading 6 boats were all in 3 or 4 boat lengths of each other at the finish.

Michael Bullot is leading the open fleet, followed by Andrew Murdoch and David Weaver. Mark Orams is leading the radial fleet followed by Laura Baldwin and Miranda Powrie.

Giles Grigg, Murray Thom and Peter van Ryn are the first three places in the masters fleet. Travis Dow is leading the 4.7 fleet.

Report for Day 2

Today was a challenging day, the sailors spent 9 hours on the water, with one race and one temperamental sea breeze! Consistency is paying off for the leaders, Michael Bullot is winning the Laser Open with another second, Miranda Powrie leading the Radials with a third place, Giles Grigg is heading up the Masters with his third first place and Travis Dow is also winning the 4.7 with his third first place.

Fortune favours the Beneteaus!
Thank you, Huey… Some sun, and a tad of wind means it is time to go racing... Ahead of the annual Beneteau Pittwater Regatta by Flagstaff Marine the weather had not been all that grand. So, peaks of sun migrating to distinct patches, and the occasional zephyr turning into a waft, then on to a calm breeze was fortunate.
