Voller Energy PLC, the manufacturer of portable fuel cells, has been shortlisted for the prestigious Best of British Industry Awards 2006.

Voller was shortlisted for the Next Generation Award. This award recognises companies that have made a deliberate investment in the development of their staff, focusing on the attraction and retention of talent

Sponsored by AMEC, The Sunday Times and The Work Foundation, the Best of British Industry Awards 2006 recognises and celebrates achievement, innovation and leadership across all segments of UK industry.

Through the use of fuel cell technology, Voller are currently developing a generator which will provide the functional equivalent of a typical petrol or diesel generator – without the emissions and maintenance drawbacks. Their initial target market is the sailing community, specifically 40 – 49 ft yachts, but wider commercial take up is expected.

Voller’s generator is environmentally friendly, quiet and vibration free. It requires no daily maintenance and weighs just 50 – 70 kg, up to 250 kg lighter than a conventional generator – great news for racing yachts. The new technology has so far received a very positive response from press and consumers alike. The prototype generator is being fitted into a yacht in May or June this year.

Voller appeared with other shortlisted companies (and the award winners) in a Sunday Times Awards supplement published with the paper on 11 February 2007. The awards themselves took place on 8th February in Central London.

Stephen Voller, CEO of Voller Energy, said:

'I am delighted and extremely proud that Voller was shortlisted for this award. People have tended only to put ‘British’ and ‘manufacturing’ in the same sentence in a negative light, but we have proved that wrong. We are looking forward to another year of fast moving progress at Voller and the further developments of our products and technologies.'

Voller Energy Group PLC is one of the first companies in the world from which you can buy fuel cell systems. Voller is a developer and manufacturer of portable fuel cell systems that produce the electrical energy you need but without the toxic emissions that contribute towards global warming and climate change.

Founded in 2002, Voller Energy has built considerable expertise in fuel cell systems technology for use as battery chargers and mobile generators.
