Yamaha and Toyota Fraser Island Fishing Expo deal

by Media Services on 2 Feb 2007
. SW
The long standing partnership between Yamaha and the Toyota Fraser Island Fishing Expo continues to grow with Yamaha signing on as Platinum Gold Sponsors for the upcoming 2007 fishing spectacular.

Based at Orchid Beach on the north-eastern stretch of Fraser Island, the premiere fishing event draws entrants from around Australia to the pristine world heritage area and continues to serve as an important promotional event for sustainable fishing practices.

The new 3 year sponsorship deal will see Yamaha play an important role in the expo up until 2009. Sweetening the deal from 2006, Australia’s best selling outboard brand has unleashed more horsepower for 2007 by donating a new F80B 4-stroke outboard to be matched with a Haines Hunter 470 Breeze fishing boat.

Yamaha understands the significance of being involved with a fishing event that actively educates participants in the benefits of environmental management. Renowned for building 4-stroke outboards with low emissions, quiet operation and remarkable fuel efficiency, Yamaha stands behind the fishing expo to ensure all participants enjoy the beauty of Fraser Island for years to come.

'We are delighted to continue our association with an event that is active in promoting great fishing in a sustainable and responsible way,' said Brett Hampson, National Sales and Marketing Manager for Marine Products at Yamaha Motor Australia.

'Our fuel injected range of 4-stroke engines is renowned for their environmentally friendly attributes including ultra low exhaust emissions to EPA 2006 and CARB 2008 levels plus outstanding fuel economy. In fact, Yamaha engines continue to live on well after they’re life expectancy with an astonishing recyclable parts rate upwards of 90%.'

If the success of the 2006 Toyota Fraser Island Fishing Expo is any indication, then the 2007 event is sure to hit the roof. A total of 1500 competitors and 280 boats set their sights on the fish and a total prize pool of over $200,000 dollars with participants taking home lucky draw prizes and giveaways across the entire 7 days.

Participants welcomed the green approach to tournament management which saw a ‘Leave No Trace' theme adopted for the duration of the 2006 event. Along with a hugely successful catch-and-release program, the Fishing Expo for 2006 had an even stronger sustainability focus with competition participants actively encouraged to leave the island in the same or better shape than when they arrived.

'The Toyota Fraser Island Fishing Expo is arguably the premiere fishing tournament on the Australian calendar,' said Brett Hampson.

'Few places can boast such a beautiful location with such a diverse range of fishing and boating locations like Fraser Island. The Yamaha team are already looking forward to being a part of the action and are proud to help promote a sustainable fishing tournament for all to enjoy.'

Yamaha outboards are available through an Australia-wide network of authorised Yamaha outboard dealers. All Yamaha outboard models are fully backed by a comprehensive two-year manufacturer’s warranty.
