Dan Slater reports from the second day of racing at the 2007 Rolex Miami Olympic Classes Regatta:

Today started with an on shore postponement due to a lack of wind. After about an hour of waiting in the Miami heat all classes were sent out onto a glassy Biscayne Bay.

We then waited for the wind to fill in, which it did… but to only 5 knots when racing got underway.

Race 1: I had a good start, got a couple of good shifts on the first beat to finish the race in 3rd.

Race 2: With similar conditions as the previous race, I started on the pin end and was on the right side of a 15-degree shift to the left. With this shift I was able to cross the fleet and then get the right hand shift to end up in the lead at the first mark. Down the run I extended a little, covered the boats behind me up the final beat however… there is always some sailor that splits tacks; this time it was the Swedish guy in 10th place who split from the rest of the fleet and when we came back to the top mark he crossed me by 2 boat lengths. I ended up finishing 2nd in that race, winning the day and taking the overall lead in the regatta.
