Opening day at 420 Pre-Worlds in New Zealand

Carl Evans and Peter Burling of New Zealand lead the 420 Pre-Worlds Open event and Sarah Wei Lin Tan and Tze Ting Lim from Singapore the Women's event at the Takapuna BC, New Zealand.

In the women's event Sarah Wei Lin Tan and Tze Ting Lim scored a 5, 3, 1 to lead from Shelley Hesson and Bianca Barbarich-Bacher (NZL) who scored a 1, 6, 8. In third place are Stephanie Hazard and Cindy Hamilton (NZL).

Giulia Zappacosta and Sara Zribi of Italy in sixth place are the best placed european team. Briton's Alice Brotchie and Jane Turner (Plymouth/Bosham) are in 29th place, Georgina Andrew and Milli Parkin (HISC) are 33rd.

In the Open event Australia's Sam Kivell and Max Taylor are in second place, with Mike Snow-Hansen and Joshua McCormack (NZL) third. Vincent Berthez and Thibault Heurley of France are the highest placed europeans.

Leading GBR sailors are James Rusden and Will Rusden (R. Lymington) at 17th and Tim Saxton and Claire Lasko in 24th place.

Seven of the 36 crews in the Womens event were caught OCS in Race 1 - four of whom were Kiwi crews.

Conditions off Takapuna were a moderate offshore breeze with a choppy sea state.

Three more races are scheduled for tomorrow.
