MHYC Marina Usage & Issues
13/12/06
Dear Member,
A quick update on current issues at MHYC for the benefit of all Members.
Entering & Exiting MHYC Marina during competition
Yachts are reminded of the need to be alert and care for other yachts when finishing in an event that utilises the privilege of having a Club House Start and Finish Line, especially Twilight Racing. Yachts returning to their berths on the MHYC Marina are requested to be aware of other competitors finishing and the requirement to keep well clear of these yachts. Over the past few weeks there have been a number of incidents involving yachts that are returning to their berths and finishing yachts.
Only vessels with an allocated marina berth may enter the area bounded by the
marina “T” heads on the eastern side. Only one vessel at any one time shall use a
fairway.
Fire Hoses & Water Taps:
Members are reminded that Fire hoses must only be used for fire fighting purposes – not for cleaning.
The hosing of yachts is not permitted, unless the operator holds (displays) a current Sydney Waters Level 3 orange sticker (spot cleaning only is permitted). Level 3 mandatory Water Restrictions are in place, for the full details are available at: http://www.sydneywater.com.au/SavingWater/WaterRestrictions/
Members are advised that Sydney Water Inspectors regularly visit MHYC and that they will issue fines for the illegal use of hoses.
Gear Storage on Marina Fingers:
Marina uses are reminded of MHYC By-Laws, Marina and Moorings 28.0. Marina and Mooring occupants shall not:
d) Permit mooring lines to obstruct walkways or fairways;
e) Store any sails, dinghies or equipment on the marina except whilst the vessel is participating in any scheduled race and then only on the berth fingers and in a manner that enables reasonable use of the marina by other persons;
Please consider other users of the marina and their safety at all times.
Follow this link to the MHYC By-Laws: http://www.mhyc.com.au/Handbook.htm or on page 7 of the MHYC Sailing Handbook 2006/2007.
Marina Security (Gates):
The Club will take reasonable steps to secure the marina against unauthorised
access. This may include but not be limited to, locking the access gates outside the
Club's published operating hours, video surveillance and the use of security patrols.
However, the Marina Manager may impose access restrictions at any time. Owners of vessels berthed on the marina are required to comply with any access restrictions in place and on entering or leaving the marina are to ensure that gates are locked behind them. Keys to the marina gates are available to owners on payment of $30. The security of vessels berthed on the marina is the responsibility of the owner.
Please note Marina Gates are usually locked at dusk, please ensure you lock gates behind you.
Marina Service Providers:
The occupant of an allocated berth shall ensure that any person who they request to
carry out any work on their vessel before commencing work obtains the Club’s
consent to work within its facilities and provide to the Club evidence satisfactory to
the Club that the person has insurances acceptable to the Club and enter into such
agreement(s) as the Club may require. The Club maintains a list of third party
suppliers and the occupant may assume that any supplier on the Club's list has the
necessary insurances.
Spit Bridge Changes to Opening Times:
To reduce vehicle traffic delays, the Roads and Traffic Authority (RTA) propose to reduce the number of weekend and public holiday openings of the Spit Bridge from 11 to 8 per day. MHYC Members will directly be effected by this change, full details of the proposal is available at http://www.mhyc.com.au/spitbridge.htm
We urge all Members to make representation regarding these changes and the drastic effect they will have on MHYC Membership and Sailing Program.
Casual Marina Fees:
A reminder to all Members that the Casual Marina Fees Apply to all who use the MHYC Marina.
Members who wish to use the marina on a casual basis are required to register with MHYC Sailing Office, complete the necessary paper work and fees.
Casual Berthing is limited, and is only permitted when first arranged through the Sailing Office.
Marina and Mooring Fees, Agreements and By-Laws can be found at: http://www.mhyc.com.au/marina.htm
MHYC Mooring Maintenance Schedule
Members are advised that routine maintenance of the MHYC Moorings will be commencing shortly. These works will be addressing mooring issues being experienced and further optimisation of all MHYC Moorings. Owners will be notified as to when works will commence.
Thank you for your cooperation
