Cruising World magazine has picked the Seawind 1160 as the Most Innovative design, along with the Best Multihull Cruiser in the USA for 2007 in the 14th edition of these prestigious awards by one of the USA’s highest selling boating magazines.

An independent panel of experts named the winners after inspecting and then testing 23 boats, including the Seawind 1160, that won nominations to the contest announced during the U.S. Sailboat Show in Annapolis, Maryland, in October.

The Seawind 1160 was judged as both Best Multihull Cruiser and Most Innovative, an award the judges were unanimous in bestowing. 'This is the first production multihull that I’ve ever seen that I’d consider buying myself,' said Peter Wormwood, a BOTY judge and catamaran designer and racer.

This caps a historic year for Seawind Catamarans who are about to celebrate 25 years in business in 2007. In September at the beginning of an exhaustive tour of the East Coast of the USA with the Seawind 1160, from Newport to St Petersburg, Seawind Managing Director was presented with the award for the 'Best Sailboat' of the Newport International Boat Show, with the Australian built Maritimo motor cruiser winning 'Best Motorboat'.

Seawind were recently recognized as the 'Best Overall Business', 'Best Manufacturer' and 'Best Innovation' by the Illawarra Business Chamber for the outstanding success the company has achieved and the employment and economic activity that Seawind have brought to the local economy. Seawind currently employ 80 staff including 13 apprentices with another 6 having been recruited for 2007.

The Seawind 1160 was also awarded the 'Australia’s Best Sailboat of 2005' by the Australian Marine Industry Federation (AMIF).

These awards are expected to continue fueling the demand on the popular Seawind 1160 with 50 boats already sold in just over 2 years, including exports of 7 to the USA, 2 to New Zealand and 1 to Hong Kong. There are now about 50 Seawinds in total that have been exported to the USA after 10 years that Seawind have been in the market.
