Hagara and Steinacher lead Tornado Worlds

by Sail-World/GJN on 7 Dec 2006
Echavarri and Paz (ESP) - Tornado Worlds 2006 Int. Tornato Assoc
Roman Hagara and Hans Peter Steinacher of Austria took back the lead of the Tornado World Championship after two more races on day two. A first and third put the double Olympic medalists one point ahead of Darren Bundock and Glenn Ashby of Australia after four races.

Hagara and Steinacher won the first race of the day ahead of Andrey Kirilyuk and Valery Ushkov of Russia, with Toni Rivas and Fabian Escude of Spain in third.

In the second race, Billy Besson and Arnaud Jarlegan of France took the gun ahead of Bundock and Ashby with Hagara and Steinacher in third place.

Briton's Andrew Walsh and Ed Barney had the best GBR result of the day with a fifth in the first race and are 20th overall. Best placed are Leigh McMillan and Will Howden at 17th, but this is not proving to be a strong regatta for Team GBR with single figure finishes hard to come by.

The appeal of offshore
Is there still appeal? Have we made it too onerous? Why would someone take it up now? I had been pondering. Yes. Marquee events have no issue attracting entrants. Middle Sea, Transpac, Cape to Rio, Fastnet, and Hobart all spring to mind instantly, but what of the ‘lesser' races? Lots of boats in pens (slips) a lot of the time
