Are you tough enough? Have you ever dreamed of sitting in a Formula 1 car on the grid at the Monaco Grand Prix next to Michael Schumacher? You have, but you know it could never happen. Likewise could you ever play for your team in the World Cup, or represent your country defending the Ashes? Probably not.

However, there is one sport where the aspirations of the average man can be achieved and you can compete at the highest level in the most exciting sporting events all over the globe. What is this sport? Ocean yacht racing.

Before you say, 'I can do that', think about it. Can you? Can you really do this? Only the tough of character need apply. However, if you are of the right mind you can compete in one of the sports most famous and prestigious events. You can be onboard a fully equipped race yacht with a crew of eight racing in the most demanding yacht race in the world – This year’s Rolex Sydney to Hobart. This year the Global Yacht Racing team are taking on the famous Rolex Sydney to Hobart yacht race again. Global Yacht Racing offer crew places to individuals of varying sailing and racing experience to take part in offshore racing. To date they have successfully trained non-professional sailors to compete in difficult offshore races such as the Rolex Sydney to Hobart Race 2004, the Rolex Fastnet Race, the Rolex Middle Sea Race and the Sevenstar Round Britain and Ireland Race 2006. Global Yacht Racing crews are made up of people from all walks of life and occasionally people join an offshore crew having never even done much sailing before at all. Global Yacht Racing is particularly proud of having introduced total novices to the exciting world of offshore racing, proving that yacht racing is becoming more and more accessible to everyone. To apply to become part of an offshore racing team visit www.globalyachtracing.com or email info@globalyachtracing.com

The Global Yacht Racing 2006 Rolex Sydney to Hobart campaign is on a feisty and exciting one-design yacht, which has a great reputation in Australia – the Sydney 38 OD. Global Yacht Racing has teamed up with Sailing Solutions to enter a fully race prepared Sydney 38 with a competitive wardrobe of carbon sails, a good track record in offshore and inshore racing in Sydney. Launched in 2000, Next placed well in the Pittwater to Coffs Harbour Race that year and enjoyed a good result in the 2002 Rolex Sydney Hobart, finishing 2nd in the Sydney 38 division.

Racing in the Rolex Sydney Hobart is a challenge in itself, but racing on a Sydney 38 this year will demand a higher level of dedication and skill than any of Global Yacht Racing’s previous campaigns.

The Sydney 38 is an exciting race yacht from a popular one-design fleet in Australia. They race in their own class for the Rolex Hobart and always perform excellently within the fleet. They are technical, fast and ensure an adrenaline fuelled ride to Hobart. To be honest, they are plain crackers to drive downwind because they can surf every tiny wave and reach speeds up to 20 knots. With their massive carbon fibre helm they are exciting to helm and are responsive and respond well to a light touch.

The Global Yacht Racing campaign starts with two weeks of training in Sydney from the 11th of December. To express interest or make an application email your sailing experience to claire.kennard@globalyachtracing.com. Previous offshore racing experience is preferred and a reasonable level of fitness is essential.

Global Yacht Racing’s world wide racing program offers ordinary individuals the opportunity to become part of an outstanding yacht racing team, campaigning in major yacht races around the globe. It is a complete package of sailing and race training in skills for both 'round the cans' and across oceans. No previous sailing experience is required.

Fortune favours the Beneteaus!
Thank you, Huey… Some sun, and a tad of wind means it is time to go racing... Ahead of the annual Beneteau Pittwater Regatta by Flagstaff Marine the weather had not been all that grand. So, peaks of sun migrating to distinct patches, and the occasional zephyr turning into a waft, then on to a calm breeze was fortunate.
