Will the Real Doha 2006 Please Stand Up!

by Nancy Knudsen, Cruising Editor on 5 Nov 2006
The REAL Doha 2006 SW
Sail-World Cruising printed a story recently about Tony Bullimore’s Doha 2006 now on its way to Hobart for the commencement of Tony’s attempt on Ellen MacArthur’s solo round world record.

Barry Pickthall from Team Bullimore has contacted us to let us know we showed the WRONG BOAT in the story – here’s his note, a photo of Tony's Doha 2006, and we’re sorry to hear about the current condition of the OTHER previous Doha 2006:

'Sorry to say that the opening shot of Tony Bullimore's catamaran 'Doha 2006' is the wrong boat.

'You have a picture of the 110ft Club Med/Doha 2006. Tony's cat is the old ENZA New Zealand, now 102ft long which raced as Daedalus against Club Med/Doha 2006 in last year's Oryx Quest round the world race.

'Confusing eh!

'If you saw the condition of Club Med/Doha 2006 now, she would bring tears to your eyes. She has been sitting at anchor off the Sheraton Hotel in Doha with a multitude of writs ever since Tracy Edwards organising company went bust a year ago.

'She is certainly in no state to go sailing. Her sails have been stored under canvas outside in the desert and her engines have been gathering sand and dust in a secure store in Doha. Her prop shafts were cut to remove the propellers and her instrumentation has been stolen, so there is no chance of her going anywhere fast.'
