Evans and Burling win 420 Open European 420 Champs

by Sail-World on 20 Aug 2006
Carl Evans and Peter Burling on their way to winning the Open 420 Worlds to which they have now added the Open 420 European title Event Media
The New Zealand crew of Carl Evans and Peter Burling have won the Open European Junior 420 Championship being sailed in Portugal.

With three races scheduled for the final day, Evans and Burling only had to finish in the top five in one of these to take the title. They did not achieve this in the first race of the day, finishing ninth, but scored a good win in the second to be assured of the title, and did not compete in the final race of the regatta.

Second overall in the open championship were the Israeli crew, Amit Brokman and Moshe Appel who have taken the title of European Champions for 2006.

Peter Burling and Carl Evans would like to thank their sponsors/supporters. In particular:

Both boys:- NZ International Yachting Trust; 2001 Wetsuits; Southern Ocean Ropes; Quantum Sails Spain; NZL 420 Association, Simon Cooke Sailing

Individual sponsors:

Carl Evans - Don Oliver Trust; Kohimarama Yacht Club

Peter Burling – SPARC; Tauranga Yacht and Powerboat Club; BOP Sailing Academy Trust; Kaenon sunglasses
