CALEMA WINDSURFING SCHOOL HOSTS JUNIOR OLYMPIC WINDSURFING FESTIVAL

by Penny Piva Rego on 9 Jun 2001
Take a stand. Let the wind fill your sails. Join the United States Sailing Association’s third annual USA Junior Olympic Windsurfing Festival, to be held at the Calema Windsurfing School in Merritt Island, FL, June 23-24. All young sailors and non-sailors, ages 8-19 are encouraged to attend the weekend events, which are sponsored by West Marine.

The emphasis of this Junior Olympics is introducing new juniors to the sport
and to racing. Events will include a novice class for first time racers, an
open class for juniors, and lots of fun events that take no prior knowledge
of windsurfing. All are welcome to attend. A limited number of boards will
be available for charter; call Tinho at 321-453-3223 to make arrangements.

To preregister for racing events, visit
http://www.calema.com/JOregistration.html.

The weekend will include mini-clinics where juniors eight years old and up
can try windsurfing with the assistance of a US SAILING-certified staff of
instructors. The only requirements are the ability to swim and parental
permission. Pre-registration for windsurfing lessons is strongly recommended.

As in the previous year, there will be fun, silly and exciting games on and
off the water. Paddle racing, relay teams, mini-boat building and racing, puzzle building and more will take place. These non-racing activities are free.

Racing will be held both days and lunch and snacks will be provided. An
entry fee of $20 for racers will be charged to cover costs. All events for non-racers are free. A limited number of boards will be available for charter. Call Tinho to arrange - 321-453-3223.
