Brotherton/Shepherd win 29er UK Championship

by Sail-World/GJN on 21 Jul 2006
29er UK National & International Open Championships Lucy Jameson
Paul Brotherton and Mari Shepherd made no mistakes on the final day of the 29er National Championship at Hayling Island SC. A fifth in the first race of the day was to be their discard and a win in the final race rounded off a smooth performance as they took the title with a nine point margin.

Second place went to Dylan Fletcher and Rob Partridge of Draycote SC, with Silja Lehitnen and Scott Babage of Finland, winning the first race to take third and highest placed overseas entry.

Fourth were James Peters and Oliver Spensley-Corfield from HISC and in fifth Sarah Martin and Nicola Groves from Queen Mary SC. Peters and Corfield also taking the Youth prize.

In the Silver fleet Felix Lyngander and Marcus Dahlavist of Sweden turned it around on the final day with a first and second allowing them to drop their BFD and finish with a comfortable margin.

Second were Ian Simms and John Goldsberry, SFYC, and third Chelsea Whitburn and Mathew Bancroft, WYC, tied on points with Henrik Grim and Johanna Grim of Sweden.

Julia Noble and Craig Paul took the Plymouth Trophy for finishing top UK boat in the Silver fleet.

A great championship not just because there were 85 boats from eight countries, the weather and race management from HISC was superb. A big thanks to all the volunteers and staff from HISC and the class association.
