RS Vareos at Filey Regatta

by RS media on 20 Jul 2006
Saturday saw 175 boats enter for the regatta; unfortunately only five of them were Vareo’s, which meant we did not have our own start and raced with the asymmetric handicap fleet. This is a shame as Filey is a fantastic location and the weather and wind was favourable on the Saturday and more challenging on the Sunday.

On Saturday there were three races, all back to back, and there was some very close racing especially between Chris, Junior and Martin, with Eddie and John not too far behind. Chris taking 1st place in the 1st and 3rd races and Junior chuffed to achieve his first 1st place in the 2nd race.

Sunday, saw another three races back to back and conditions were more interesting, more wind and a bigger sea, excellent training for the Nationals. Only two Vareo’s made the start of race 4, Chris and Junior, having a very close first lap before Chris disappeared into the distance and left Junior swimming.

In race 5, Chris was the only Vareo left, and decided to race against the other asymmetrics in the handicap fleet, recording some good results to finish 2nd overall in the handicap fleet, and that’s all off 1035 guys!

Overall a great time was had by all, an excellent BBQ on the Saturday night, the weather sure helped. Many thanks to all Filey members for making it a good weekend and I hope to see you next year.
