Raymarine announces the launch of its Man-Overboard-System designed to protect skippers, crew, and family and passengers.

Life Tag is an automatic, wireless Man Overboard device that can be used as a stand alone system, or be integrated via Seatalk into an on board navigation network or multi-function display system.

The Life Tag can be worn around the arm or wrist, attached to your clothing or hung from a lanyard around your neck, or in your pocket. Its small size makes it suitable for adult or child and can be looped through a belt loop.

While ever the tag remains within wireless range (which is approx 9 metres) of the base station, the tags exchange messages to confirm the crew member is safely within range. If the tag moves away from the base station, ie the crewmember has fallen overboard, the clearly audible alarm will sound.

Up to 16 Life Tags can be protected by one base station, and the system is easily extended if you need additional base stations for larger boats.

For example on a 30 metre super maxi, two or even three units will extend the onboat range and these additionalo stations enable Life tags for more crew.

Two Life Tags are provided with each system, with additional Life Tags available from Raymarine.

Operating as a stand alone system, that is quick and easy to install, the Life Tag base station is powered by the ships 12 volts.

Using Raymarines 'Seatalk', the Life Tag can also be fully integrated with a vessels instrument systems including the C and E Series Multifunction displays, and ST60Plus Instrument systems,

This has the advantage that if the alarm goes off, the Navigation system will automatically go into Man Overboard MOB mode, recording and graphically displaying the exact position at which the crewman was lost and indicating how to return to that spot. When integrated in this way, the Life Tag will also draw its power from the Seatalk network.

The Life Tag has an LED light that indicates its operational status and is powered using replaceable CR2 Lithium batteries. Battery life equates to around 200 operational hours. When not in use the Life Tags automatically power off to conserve battery life.

The Life Tag base station is connected to an extra loud external alarm using a simple two wire connection.

The Life Tag system from Raymarine is an affordable, reliable wireless Man Overboard alert system. The complete set includes Base-Station, Alarm and TWO Life Tags, and sells for $995. Additional Tags are available at $159 each.

Robin Kydd from Oceantalk commented today; 'The new Life Tag system demonstrates Raymarine's ongoing committment to the serious side of boating.

'Our earnest hope is that the marine community recognises the value of children and crew and does not need to be pushed with regulations to uptake such important and effective safety equipment.'
