by Simon Forbes on 18 Jul 2006
The Royal Southampton Yacht Club’s first ever Double–Handed regatta attracted 53 entrants. Two races on Saturday saw 10-15 knots easterly wind while Sunday’s race was postponed two hours awaiting a light sea breeze.

The varied fleet included a Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 45.2, a Folkboat and a Seacart 30 trimaran as well as nine J-Boats. The regatta was sponsored by MDL Marinas which promoted a good gathering of competitors at the Yacht Club in Ocean Village Marina on the Saturday evening.

The Race Management team set the fleet away on both days from off the Lee on Solent area.

Class 2 (IRC), was won by J/80 Hoolinkazan (Steve Sault/Sachiko Suzuki) by one point from Laser 28 The Flying Fish (Kathy and Rupert Smalley) and First Class 8 Moonshine (Douglas Watson).

Class 3 (Club-rated) saw J/80 Savage Sailing(Chris Savage/Richard Hughes) win by 4 points from the Hunter 707s Feeling Rough (Jason Foster/Andrew Baird) and Tigerfeet (Stephen Mayer/Ed Rogers).
