Paul Goodison Champion at Laser Europeans 2006 Tomasz Ignatowicz
It was close but Paul Goodison is the Laser European Champions again. Pushed all the way by Maciej Grabowski of Poland, the world number one retained the title after a tense final race at Gdynia in Poland.

After leading the championship for the whole week, Goodison was pushed to the final race by Poland's Maciej Grabowski. Grabowski won two races on the penultimate day to close to within 16 points of Goodison with two races on the final day.

But in the first race of the day neither of the leading pair were in the front runners, Goodison finishing 21st and Grabowski 32nd with Brendan Casey of Australia taking the gun.

Casey finished in 22nd position, just behind Tom Slingsby in 20th spot. Best placed of the Aussies was Michael Blackburn in 15th position. Ashley Brunning concluded his campaign in 65th.

In the final race Tobias Schadewaldt of Germany won with Grabowski finishing sixth, and then Goodison crossed in 16th to take the title by three points.

Gustavo Lima (POR) finished in third place overall after his charge faltered in the final race, only managing 29th.

In the Youth championship, Danijel Mihelic of Croatia is the new Champion. He had a comfortable win after starting the week with a three bullet run. Second was Rutger Van Schaardenburg of Holland and third Daniel Jakobsson of Brazil.
