Spain win Women's Yngling World Title

Spain's Monica and Sandra Azon and Graciela Pisonero won the women's world title at the Yngling World Championship in La Rochelle, Saturday.

Tied for second with the British team of Sarah Ayton, Sarah Webb and Victoria Rawlinson at the start of the day they kept their nerve after Sally Barkow, Carrie Howe and Debbie Capozzi of the United States won the first race of the day to move back into the lead.

Overnight leaders Ulrike Schuemann, Runa Kappen and Ute Hoeptner of Germany could only manages a 15th but the Brits were right there with a second place leaving everything to play for in the final race.

In the final race it was the Dutch team of Mandy Moulder, Marye Faber and Floortje Hendriksen who recorded their second win of the week with the Spanish team in second place. With Barkow down the fleet everything depend on where the Germans finished - they came in ninth to tie the points but the Spanish took the title on countback.

Barkow was 13th and took third overall. The British were DSQ and dropped to fourth overall.

In the Open event, John Ingalls, James Randell and Mikael Komar of the USA in third at the start of the final day, recorded a second and a fifth to take the title. Second place went to Tom Ote, Moryke Von Dyk and Ester Otte of the Netherlands and third to Bo Reker Andersen, Erik Pkins and Henrik Branstkup of Denmark.
