Konica Minolta Zana extends lead in Round Ireland

20:23 on Tuesday night is the time the Bakewell-White designed New Zealand supermaxi Konica Minolta Zana have to beat if they still want to be in contention to beat Colm Barringtons current record.

This looks very possible at their current position past Eagle Island at 16.45 today. However, the winds are expected to decrease over the night. Konica will need an average speed of 10.5 knots to complete the remaining 300 miles from Eagle Island to the finish in Wicklow, hence the record may be safe!

On corrected time after Tuskar, Ireland's West is leading the pack after checking in 02.18 this morning, with Teng Tools and well tipped Jeronimo close on her tail.

Only fourteen yachts have checked in at Inistearacht to date, with Konica being the first at 23.39 on Sunday night. Nine hours later, at 08.47 this morning the rest of the Super Zeros checked in, leading with Solune followed close behind by Whisper, Spirit of Kilrush and Altana Chieftain. The majority of the Class Zeros have all checked in at this point lead by Jeronimo and closely followed by Alice 2, with only Ireland's West of Class One so far.

After Inistearacht on handicap, Jeronimo is leading the field with Ireland's West and Anthony Richards' Minnie the Moocher lying at third.

To date, the BMW Round Ireland Yacht Race has only encountered two retirements, in the form of Nunatak and Southbound.ie, two of our Double Handed yachts. Ulula, Moontiger and Blackjack all checked in at the Fastnet within an hour of each other. However we are still waiting on Fizz.

Follow the action all the way and logon to our website for GPS Tracking of all the yachts. For more information about the race and to see the full list of Provisional Results please log on to our website at www.roundirelandyachtrace.ie
