Well-known waterfront businessman and yachtsman Mr. Joe Goddard has been appointed as the new Chief Executive Officer of the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia, home of the famous Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race.
Goddard, best known for his role in co-founding the corporate and leisure boating company EastSail, brings a wealth of experience to the position having worked in almost every aspect of the yachting industry.
'I have been a CYCA member for 25 years and know the industry well having worked as a yacht designer, sail maker, sailing school instructor, marketer of corporate charters and most recently, a yacht broker,' Goddard said.
Goddard is leaving his yacht brokerage 'Gomarine', founded 12 months ago after 17 years with EastSail. Family and brokerage staff will manage Gomarine in the future.
'The CYCA is the best yacht club in Australia and one of the most prestigious in the world. I regard the position as CEO of such an establishment as the pinnacle of my career so far,' Goddard said.
'I plan to be a successful manager and to gain the confidence of the members and the staff right from the start,' he added.
A veteran of 12 Sydney to Hobart Races, Goddard is also a respected yachtsman and a regular competitor in the CYCA's racing calendar with his imported J105 Jumpin' Jack Flash, winner of the first two BMW Sydney Winter Series races in its division on Sydney Harbour in recent weeks.
Goddard has also competed in 10 Sydney to Mooloolaba Races, six Sydney to Gold Coast Races and eight Gosford to Lord Howe Races and has achieved numerous handicap and line honours wins over the years. His best result in a Sydney to Hobart Race was 8th overall in 1989 as skipper of the Frers 40 Venture One.
Goddard will commence work at the CYCA at the end of the month. He is married with three children.
