Sydney 38’s for Annapolis & San Francisco

by Louise Bashford on 26 Aug 2000 Following the impressive initial Sydney 38 fleet development in Chicago with a group of One Design enthusiasts, Sydney Yachts have secured buyers to instigate the pioneering of the Sydney 38’s in Annapolis on the East Coast and San Francisco on the West Coast of the United States.

The Sydney 38 brilliantly combines an appealing and accommodating interior with quality construction, normally equal only in custom built yachts. Sydney Yachts rose to the growing evident international demand for quality-built yachts several years ago and this standard is embraced in the Sydney range, and in the Sydney 38.

The Sydney 38, in establishing its fleet in Annapolis will be presented at this year’s Annapolis Boat Show in October. Doug Croker, Yachtsman and One Design enthusiast flew to Chicago to test sail Michael Kennedy’s Sydney 38 “Corpernious”. Doug, who has embraced One Design racing over recent years in his OD35, typified the response of many One Design enthusiasts and Club racers following his initial sail and commitment to join the consistent growth of the Sydney 38 One Design Class.

The first Sydney 38 will arrive in San Francisco later this year. Forming the catalyst for the fleet development on the West Coast of the United States, the San Francisco bound Sydney 38 is expected to draw a strong attraction from both One Design enthusiasts in the area and those in pursuit of a strong performance based fast cruiser. Sailors racing in the handicap classes will also enjoy the sheer fun of sailing this performance based sailing boat.
