The auction and dinner to benefit the New Zealand International Optimist teams was held on Friday night at the Royal NZ Yacht Squadron.
Organiser, Bridget Kool reports that although the final accounting is not yet complete, the event was a sell out and the auctions were very well supported. The funds raised are expected to be in the $35,000 - $40,000 range.
Top items at the auction were a ten day cruise in a Benetau 323 which went for more than its face value. A weekend for six people in a luxury catamaran, also sold well.
A pink Roxy handbag, complete with a broken cellphone, sold at auction for $100.
There were over fifty items on silent auction which was also well supported.
Guest speaker was Steinlager II crewman, Glen Sowry, along with George Kool from the NZ Optimist Association. The members of the various Optimist teams, due to travel to international regattas, including the Worlds and North Americans, were introduced to the audience.
