Competitors in the NZL Yachting Trust Auckland Fiji Race face another rough night, except that they will probably be hard on the wind on port tack instead of starboard.

Race Director, Fendall Halliburton told Sail-World that conditions in the Race Fleet were likely to be 30knot winds with four to six metre seas (about 20ft).

Tomorrow winds were expected to go around to the south west, but still remain very fresh.

We are not expecting to see single digit windspeeds until Tuesday at the earliest, said Halliburton.

While conditions were very tough in the race are, there no reports of serious damage, however daily runs were down. Truxton is the seond boat to withdraw, after A Southern man AGD pulled out just after the start with steering problems. the The conditions were expected to improve as the wind swung and the runs would improve dramatically as the boats started reaching.

Ahead of the Racing fleet, the Corinthian and Bula fleets had enjoyed more moderate conditions after starting on Wednesday. The boats at the tail-end of this group were experiencing light winds as the breeze clocked.

In the Racing Group, Pussy Galore, the Cookson 50 is leading the Elliott 50 Sportivo, by about 11 miles, with the former Whitbread maxi, Lion New Zealand in third place on line. Pussy Galore is also the only boat to crack the 10kt average for the past 12 hours.
