Chris Packer has emerged from a coma after his recent heart attack Ocean Images
The Sunday Times in Fremantle reports that Perth sailor Chris Packer, 53, is out of a coma and showing signs of recovery after a heart attack two weeks ago.
His brother, Tony, said yesterday there was 'good hope'.
'He is recognising people,' he said.
The South African born, Perth raised ocean racing champion had a heart attack while playing golf on April 29.
Chris Packer was a member of the winning Admirals Cup Team in 1979 and won the 1975 Sydney Hobart race aboard the Ben Lexcen designed Rampage. He sailed in New Zealand for a number of years, campaigning the top ocean racer Starlight Express. He was also one of the driving forces behind Southern Spars, turning the fortunes of the company around, to the point where it is one of the leading spar manufacturers and technology companies in the world.
