Soko Islands Rally
by HK Cruiser Owners' Association on 27 Apr 2006
Hong Kong sailors go straight past the Soko Islands on a regular basis – on the way to Macau. There used to be a Vietnamese refugee camp here in the ‘90s, but that is long gone, and this little group of islands is one of the most underestimated cruising grounds on in Hong Kong waters.
This coming weekend 29/30 April the Discovery Bay Yacht Club is organizing a rally to the Sokos, starting at 1030 hrs at Discovery Bay, and finishing with a raft-up, beach party and bbq under the stars at the smaller of the two main islands in the group, Siu A Chau.
On the night 28/29 April DB Marina will waive berthing charges for boats participating in the rally.
The Aberdeen Boat Club are arranging a Pursuit Race return on Sunday 30 April, finishing at Datum Rock to the east of Peng Chau.
The Lantau Boat Club is arranging separate beach-cat races down and back, and plan on camping ashore overnight.
The event is open to all boats, including motor vessels, junks, and speed-boats. Yachts can choose to cruise, rather than race, down and back if they prefer.
