After one of the slowest finishes on this tour - taking 8 hours to cover the final 25 miles - B&Q crossed the finish line of Leg 6 off the coast of Hong Kong at 12:16:32 local time today [23/4/06]. At 0900 they finally got some wind, around 3 knots, that built up to 7 knots by the time they crossed the line with full main and Code 0. Ellen and the crew have recorded a time of 2 days, 16 hours, 46 minutes and 37 seconds for the Taipei-Hong Kong leg – slower than the target time they set themselves for this 460 mile leg from Taipei to Hong Kong.
It was a frustrating trip from Taipei as B&Q started to move into warmer waters. 'We got off to a good start, with strong NE winds - but sadly, as seems to so often be the case here, the wind went quite light on us, and the latter part of the trip has been a fair bit slower,' said Ellen.
'It seems amazing that we are already here in Hong Kong, after finishing
our sixth leg of this circuit. The turn-around in Taiwan was so quick that it almost feels as though we have been sailing non-stop from Shanghai!
This was also a first daylight arrival, which made a real difference to everyone involved. The sailing has been amazing on this leg, we've had great conditions for multihull sailing and I think everyone onboard has really enjoyed themselves.
To arrive into Hong Kong with this great weather is also fantastic and I know that the crew and I are looking forward to our time here, seeing both the local culture and meeting the local people.'
