Over the last 6 hours, positions have changed significantly during the first night at sea. The latest position report shows ABN AMRO ONE (Mike Sanderson) has once again re-established their position as leader of the pack.

Just before passing the headland of Cabo Frio, the entire fleet were fighting with a dying breeze. At this point, ABN AMRO ONE, ABN AMRO TWO (Sebastien Josse) and Pirates of the Caribbean (Paul Cayard), decided to take a more northerly course and struck out in front with a stronger breeze. Meanwhile, Brasil 1 (Torben Grael), Ericsson Racing Team (John Kostecki) and movistar (Bouwe Bekking), who were further south, fell behind. movistar have suffered the most from this tactical decision and are currently 14 nautical miles behind the leader.

Now the whole fleet have rounded the corner of Cabo Frio, they are heading on a more north easterly course towards Cabo de Sao Tome and are enjoying stronger breezes of between 11 to 15 knots. The leading boat, ABN AMRO ONE, is currently 35 miles from this next prominent headland.
