I have been to few events as a photographer where time puts a lot more
pressure on the photographers than the 100 meter finals at the Olympics.
With today's technology photographers are very often tempted/obliged to
shoot and have a look at the result immediately and change settings to improve the next image if they can.
During the 100 metre sprints this is impossible since the event lasts for
less than 10sec. It’s a matter of choosing a setting and then hitting the button with the motor drive screaming.
On the start of the Sydney-Goldcoast race it was the same. After 18 minutes all the boats had left the harbour. We were positioned between the heads in an
incredible washing machine location which I have only experienced during the
Airlie Beach regattas. Spectacular images once I found out how to keep my
balance and try to keep the cameras dry (impossible).
The result was great and the images are full of action. Too bad everything
went by in a blink of an eye!
