Otago Boys' High School and Auckland's St Kentigern College have won their way through to the under-18 eights final of the national secondary schools rowing regatta at Lake Ruataniwha, Twizel.
Both crews had to win their repechage races yesterday to advance to Saturday's Maadi Cup final.
The Otago BHS eight came storming home in the first of two repechages. Fired up from their surprise win earlier in the day in the under-17 double, Adam Cowie and Clarke McNab made sure their team-mates kept well in front of nearest rival St Andrew's College.
St Kentigern was very much in control in the second race.
In the girls' under-18 double, Invercargill's James Hargest High School sisters, Rachel and Jessica van der Lem, Timaru's Roncalli College crew of Jacqueline Roberts and Victoria Walden and Wanganui Collegiate's Liana Watson and Frances Skilton all won their repechages to qualify for the finals.
The best represented event at the championships, the girls under-16 double, featured two repechages with Rangi Ruru Girls' School (Lucy Peterson and Rachel Whiteside) and Burnside High School (Lucy Armstrong and Matilda Carrell) both qualifying for today's semi-finals.
