Queen Charlotte College rowers Hepe Beech and Jordon McKenzie joined the list of Marlborough college rowers to qualify for finals at the Aon Maadi Cup New Zealand secondary schools rowing championships at Lake Ruataniwha this morning, competing in the under 16 double sculls.
Several more rowers from QCC, Marlborough Boys' and Marlborough Girls' College are also in action today in semifinals.
Meanwhile one of the best rows yesterday came from the MGC under 16 quad of Emma McKenzie, Charlotte McInnes, Hannah Giles, Tamara Bright and coxswain Charlotte Peter who surprised many by finishing second in their semifinal and making the A final. The under 15 quad of Nicola Watts, Hannah van Velthooven, Tui Scott, Ellie Wilson and coxswain Kathleen Blackburn won their semifinal, advancing to the A final.
MBC's Ryan Brown, despite struggling with illness, has made the A final of the under 18 single sculls after winning his repechage. Brown and Liam Kydd missed out on a place in the under 18 double final.
Semifinals continue today at Lake Ruataniwha where conditions dawned flat and perfect for rowing. Finals begin tomorrow and finish on Saturday evening.
