Hamilton Boys vs Wanganui Collegiate in BU184+

by Rowing-World on 27 Mar 2006
Wanganui Collegiate qualify for the BU184+ SIR (South Island Rowing)
Two heats were raced today in the BU184+ event which will culminate in the Finals for the Springbok Shield on Friday.

The North Island champions, Hamilton Boys won the first heat by 10 seconds from Kings College, and secured a place in the final. Third was Otago Boys High with the second Hamilton Boys crew (the other half of their Eight) in fourth place.

In Heat 2 it was the dark horse of Wanganui Collegiate who won in a time, just a second shy of Hamilton Boys with silver medallist at the North Islands, St Kentigerns six seconds back.

The result for Kings will be very heartening as they finished fourth in the final at the North Islands and appear to have made a crew change introducing Hugo Farmer into the crew.

Most of the North Island finalists were drawn in the first heat , and will be in the repechages tomorrow.

The Fours crews broke down for the U18 Pair oar event earlier in the morning, and in the fist heat, Hamilton Boys had a cracker of a race with Otago Boys High – with the North Island crew finishing about half a second ahead of Otago. Both crews go through to the Final on Friday. The second heat was a slower affair with Bethlehem College heading off Wellington College, taking up two other places in the Final with St Patricks in third 17 seconds back, and destined for the repechage.

Only 11 crews contested the Pairs meaning seven crews will contest the repechage.
