Forrester Properties Sydney to Mooloolaba...Brinda's holding Wild Thing

by Rob Kothe on 7 Apr 2001
First evening sked, Brindabella and Wild Thing were abeam of each other in light 10-knot north easterlies, having progressed some 37 miles northwards.

During the late afternoon, around 5pm, the breeze had gone left some 20 degrees and dropped leaving some of the older heavier boats well back.

The boats that kept inshore seemed to do better in the fluky conditions

By 7pm, the breeze has gone back right to about NNE and had increased to around 10 knots. Obviously the land breeze will have a major effect on fleet positions.

In the IMS Division

Brindabella is leading IMS division from Ragamuffin, who is 9 miles back, with Eureka 2 miles back; SAP Ausmaid is a mile back on the same line.

The three Beneteau 40.7's are close together with Koolewong (the former Fruit Machine) a mile ahead of Mojo Rising and Hamilton Island IMS winner Fireball.

Nips n Tux, the Telstra Cup winner has not had a good afternoon, she was required to execute a 720 before leaving the heads and is with the Beneteau's
And therefore well back in 9th place on handicap.

Scoundrel, who crossed the startline an hour behind the balance of the fleet, because of fuel contamination engine issues has already caught Lady Penhryn and will climb back up the fleet.

In the IRC Division Wild Thing is leading Xena, with the Danish built X 442 Crossing in third place and Martin James Infinity III coming third.

The two Cookson 12's, first generation No Fearr and second generation Occasional Course Language were next.

In PHS Marcioness is leading from David Pescud's Aspect Computing sailing in un-water ballasted mode is two miles astern of Ragamuffin.

Bright Morning Star is leading the Division from Jessie and then Aspect.
