As New Zealand’s leading Olympic sport, Yachting NZ is recruiting an outstanding leader to execute the NZL Olympic sailing programme covering the 2008 and 2012 Olympics.

The Olympic Director will manage all planning and delivery of YNZ’s Olympic programme and the New Zealand Olympic Squad.

The Olympic Director will report to the Chief Executive. The primary goal of the Olympic Director will be to create Olympic sailing champions for New Zealand.

Candidates will need to be wise and experienced in international campaigning, coaching, managerially excellent, have outstanding credibility as a leader and be uncompromising about winning.

If you think you’ve got what it takes to come on board, Yachting NZ would like to hear from you!

A position description and application details are on the Sportspeople website through the link below.

In the first instance general enquiries should be directed to Robert McMurtrie (Managing Director - Sportspeople) on (02) 9555 5000 or if calling from New Zealand 0061 2 9555 5000 or Rob McCluskey (Senior Recruitment Consultant & Director – Sportspeople) on (02) 9555 5000 or if calling from New Zealand 0061 2 9555 5000 or via jobs@sportspeople.com.au

In the past 12 months, two New Zealand crews have won silver and bronze medals in World Championships for Olympic classes. Others have performed to the same level in European championships.

In the recently announced ISAF rankings, New Zealand sailors are ranked #1 in two of the Olympic events, and NZL is ranked third country overall across all Olympic classes.

In the Sail Melbourne, Sail Auckland and Rolex Miami Olympic Classes Regatta, New Zealand crews have competed in all classes, withe excellent results being obtained by both the proven crews from 2005 and new combinmations that are using the DownUnder series to build for the 2006 European circuit and beyond.

After undergoing several independent reviews following the 2004 Olympics, in which the best placed NZL competitor was fifth, several significant changes have been undertaken and a new High Performance Plan developed.

Subsequently, adequate funding has been obtained from Sports and Recreation (SPARC) for the 2008 Olympic program and Talent Development for 2012. Additional sailors and coach funding is provided directly by SPARC against results that are achieved at World Championship and European Championship level.

Funding levels are now in line with other top New Zealand Olympic sports, which are also achieving at World Championship level, following the 2004 Olympics.

Applications for the role of Olympic Director close on 24 February 2006, and it is intending to start the preliminary interviewing process before this date.
