Paul Brotherton wins Tiger Trophy

Paul Brotherton and Mari Shepherd sailing a 29er won the John Merricks Tiger Trophy at Rutland Water SC over the weekend. Light winds dictated the racing but Brotherton with a first and third, discarding a 45, took the overall event.

Second place went to Stuart Bithiel and Richard Wagstaff, Fireball, and third to the Phantom of Clive Cokayne who was winner of the Slow series. Fourth overall was the 505 of Russell and Andrew Short and then a pair of Merlin Rockets, led by Will Warren and Chris Robinson with Chris Martin and Chris Gould taking sixth.

Individual race winners were; race one Toby Heppell, 49er, who did not sail the other two races. Race two Andrew Couch, Phantom, who finished seventh overall and race three Brotherton, 29er and overall winner.

200 entries were received and all proceeds go to the John Merricks Sailing Trust. Prizes awarded were the Tiger Trophy, originally won by John for overall winners, Lady Tiger, Shere Khan Trophy (First veteran), Pursuit Trophy, Merricks Memorial Trophy (470). Prizes for first three finishers in individual classes with fleets of six or more.
