Trilogy wins Trailable Multihull Nationals

by Di Pearson on 29 Jan 2006
A three way battle ensued in the Trailable Multihull National title during Skandia Geelong Week in Geelong, but consistency paid for the crew on Keith Glover’s Grainger Tri, Trilogy.

Going into the final day, only one point separated Glover’s Queensland entry and Bob and Kim Hutchings' Egan 9.5 Voodoo Spirit from the ACT, with Joel Berg’s Allyachtspars Raider just a further three points away.

Amazing how one day and two races can make a big difference. Trilogy, with a bullet and a fourth won the series by five points from Voodoo Spirit, but it was Craig Uthanks Slick Willie (MYCV), living up to its name, that romped in to take third overall by winning the final race.

Glover said great work from his crew, which included boat designer Julian Bethwaite, helped stitch up the series for the APC Logistic Trophy. 'We had a great regatta. It was very well run – we had a wonderful time – it was great racing,' Glover said.

Officials from Royal Geelong Yacht Club conducted racing on two triangle courses on Corio Bay.

Mixed weather gave all competitors the opportunity to sail in their preferred conditions. The final day was conducted in very light and shifty airs, making tacticians and steerers work overtime.

Seventeen multihulls are contesting the Championship, hosted by Royal Geelong Yacht Club and concluding with two further triangle courses on Corio Bay today. The overall winner will collect the APC Logistic trophy.

During the Royal Geelong Yacht Club presentation, Commodore Mike Kelly commented, 'we are very proud of this regatta, but we couldn’t do it without the support of our sponsor Skandia. Their level of commitment is fantastic. The same goes for our support sponsors, in particular Scotchmans Hill.'
