4 Gold - 2 Silver - 2 Bronze for Skandia Team GBR

Final day of the US Sailing's Rolex Miami OCR and after the final Medal races in the new Olympic format the medal positions have been decided. Only the leading ten boats in each class raced in the Medal race on Friday - the race could not be discarded and counted double points. The rest of the competitors sailed seperate races to decide the remaining positions overall. No doubt there will be considerable discussion among the sailors after the racing, only the second time the format has been tried.

The British team sailing under the Skandia Team GBR banner have taken four gold, two silver and two bronze -winning medals in seven classes. The USA won three gold, France two and Spain and Italy one each if the two outstanding results maintain the existing positions.

First Gold for Briton went to Nic Asher and Elliot Willis in the 470 Men, beating the French pair Ben and Romain Bonnaud in the Medal race to leave them with the Silver. Gideon Kliger and Udi Gal (ISR) won the Bronze. Luke Patience and Chris Grube (GBR) finished ninth overall.

Briton's second Gold was won by Nick Dempsey on the RS:X board, already well ahead he won the medal race as well. Silver went to Nicolas Huguet of France with the Bronze to Ivan Pastor of Spain.

Also on the RS:X, Bryony Shaw of Briton won a Gold in the women's event. Marina Alabau (ESP) took the Silver and Lucy Horwood of Briton the Bronze. Christina Johnstone (GBR) finished fifth overall.

Paul Goodison made it Gold number four for Skandia Team GBR, winning the Laser by a considerable margin. Felix Pruvot of France won the Silver and Maciej Grabowski of Poland the Bronze.

The 49er resailed their Medal race and Piero and Gianfranco Sibello of Italy won the Gold, Chris Draper and Simon Hiscocks of Briton the Silver and Rodion Luka and George Leonchuk took the Bronze. Stevie Morrison and Ben Rhodes (GBR) were fifth overall and John Pink and Alex Hopson (GBR) seventh overall.

Yngling Gold went to Sally Barkow, Deborah Capozzi and Carrie Howe of the USA,and the Silver to Hannah Swett, Melissa Purdy and Liz Filter (USA) with Skandia Team GBR of Sarah Ayton, Sarah Webb and Victoria Rawlinson taking the Bronze. FARRELL, Gemma Farrell, Rachel Howe and Diana  Shanks (GBR) finished ninth.

In the Women's 470, Ingrid Petitjean and Nad Douroux of France won Gold, with Briton's Christina Bassadone and Saskia Clark fifth in the Medal race and therefore taking the Silver overall. Amanda Clark and Sarah Mergenthaler (USA) took the Bronze. Pippa Wilson and Sheena Craig (GBR) finished ninth overall.

In the Finn, Raffael Trujillo of Spain took the Gold, Chris Cook (CAN) the Silver and Jonas Hoegh Christensen 9DEN) the Bronze. Ed Wright of Briton finished in fifth.

Anna Tunnicliffe of the USA won the Gold in the Laser Radial, with Paige Railey, who was unable to discard her second OCS yesterday, taking the Silver. Jennifer Splading of Canada took the Bronze. For Briton, Laura Baldwin was fourth and Andrea Brewster fifth.

Tornado was a certain Gold for John Lovell and Charles Ogletree of the USA. Olivier Backes and Paul Sevestre of France took Silver and another French pair, Revill Xavier and Espagnon Chritophe the Bronze. Briton's Leigh MacMillan and Will Howdon were sixth and Mark Bulkley and Rob Wilson ninth overall.

Xavier Rohart and Pascal Rambeau of France did not sail in the Star final race, they already had the Gold won. Silver went to Andrew Horton and Brad Nichol of the USA with Bronze to George Szabo and Eric Monroe also of the USA.
