Only the leading ten boats in each class raced in the Medal race on Friday - the race could not be discarded and counted double points. The rest of the competitors sailed seperate races to decide the remaining positions overall. No doubt there will be considerable discussion among the sailors after the racing, only the second time the format has been tried.

The British team sailing under the Skandia Team GBR banner have taken four gold, two silver and two bronze -winning medals in seven classes. The USA won three gold, France two and Spain and Italy one each if the two outstanding results maintain the existing positions.
